The individual features of CCTools and each included program are listed below:
- CCEdit program, the most powerful Chip's Challenge Editing program yet.
It includes:
- Level editing with the graphics from either Microsoft's version
of Chip's Challenge, or from TileWorld (so you can see what your
level would look like in both)
- Advanced list editors for Monsters, Traps, and Cloning machines
- Color-Coded Hilighting of connected tiles, target teleporters,
and of selected tiles when using the Monster, Trap, or Clone
List Editors
- A Path Making tool for easily drawing out paths with moving
floors, ice, even monster trails!
- An advanced level manager that puts all the level stats and
information in an easily accessable place
- A sorted list of tiles for use, so you can easily find the tile
you're looking for without hunting for it
- Two-button mouse editing, like MS Paint
- An MDI (Multiple Document Interface) allowing the user to edit
more than one level at a time
- A recent file list, so your most commonly accessed files are
easy to get to
- A .DAC file creator for use in TileWorld
- Copying/Pasting formats compatable with ChipEdit and Chip's
Workshop
- 3 Levels of zoom: 100%, 75%, 50%
- The ability to safely test both single levels and entire levelsets
in either MS Chip's Challenge or TileWorld without the risk of
losing/changing scores
- An advanced menu, allowing you to do unsupported things to your
levels.
- The Chip's Challenge Level Manager, used for levelset management,
including playing, editing and scorekeeping.
- Introduction of new extension (.ccl) that existing .dat files
can be renamed to, so they can be opened by a double-click in
Windows (just change the .dat to .ccl)
- Easy way to play multiple levelsets in MS Chip's Challenge or
Tileworld, without the risk of screwing up your other scores.
- All MS CC scores are saved in the same file (C:\Windows\CCScore.ini)
with different entries for easy management and retrieval of
scores
- Properties dialog, showing you all sorts of useful information
about your levelset, including bold scores (If a .bold or .cci
file is included)
- Score information for individual levels can be viewed easily
from "Score Data" tab
- Score information will also show you if you have a "bold" score
provided you have a .cci or .bold file with the levelset
- Use any of the three editors (ChipEdit, CCEdit, Chip's Workshop)
to edit the open levelset, with the click of a button
- Make new, customized EXEs (simple mode - for more advanced EXE
customization, see the Customizer) specifically made for a
specific levelset, so it can be played without launching the PLM
- Warp to the selected level when playing it or when editing it
with CCEdit
- Automatically sets the last level, so you won't get an error on
shorter levelsets
- CCHack, a MS Chips.exe file customizer (inspired by DeHackEd) that allows
full customization over many aspects of the game's mechanics:
- Save/load/apply "patch files" that are stored sets of changes
for the exe file for others to use
- No need to distribute (illegal) copies of the EXE file, as the
patch files mentioned above should take care of any necessity to
do so
- Customization of all text in the game, plus some of the dialog
and menu text, and even the graphcis!
- Integrated help system that's easy to access and use from all three
component programs, and from the Start Menu
- Only a 1.6 Mb Download! (700 Kb for the CCLM standalone build)
- Best of all, it's absolutely free! Of course, I think all Chip's
Challenge programs are, but this is still a good thing!
